BEST PRACTICE

Student Seminars/Group Discussions/Competitions/Projects:  Seminars by students are organized as part of the curriculum which helps them in improving their presentation skills and confidence levels. Also encouraging the students to participate in intercollegiate competitions.

Celebrating  World Consumer Day on March 15, the day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected, and to protest against market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights. World Consumer Rights Day is globally recognised with support from the United Nations and other international actors.

Celebrating the World Population Day on 11 July , which seeks to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues, was established by the then-Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989, an outgrowth of the interest generated by the Day of Five Billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

Celebration Of Anti-Poverty Day on 17 October

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. 17 October presents an opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concerns heard, and a moment to recognize that poor people are the first ones to fight against poverty.

Student Internships: The Department has encouraged the students to complete their internships in the Industry.

Working with Students

  1. Use outreach to counter stereotypes about economics and close other information gaps.

When faculty proactively offer information about the breadth of the field of economics, more students from underrepresented groups study economics. Simple changes can help students who are less familiar with academia.

  1. Offer course content that is relevant for diverse students.

Students come to our classes with a wide range of life experiences and interests, but standard economics curricula often fall short of engaging diverse students.

  1. Use effective and inclusive classroom techniques.

Active learning and other evidence-based pedagogical approaches are effective, inclusive, and straightforward to implement. These techniques have especially large benefits for members of underrepresented groups.

  1. Build a sense of belonging for all students.

The extreme demographic imbalances in economics departments present an unhealthy environment and an unlevel playing field. When students from underrepresented groups receive explicit and implicit messages that they belong in the field, their performance and persistence improve.

  1. Help your students understand and enjoy the learning process.

When students and faculty understand that abilities are developed through education, effort, and experience, academic performance improves, satisfaction increases, and race and gender gaps narrow.
